Items We Accept

We’ll re-purpose everything except furniture! Our basic rule is that if an eight year-old can carry it – we’ll take it!

Gently used or new children’s items will be distributed (free) directly to local children-in-need through community agencies and schools.

Some of the “better” adult clothes, household goods and everything else not appropriate for children will be sold in our new Thrift Store, open on Saturdays. For items not saleable in our thrift store, we sell in periodic “yard-sales” or to second-hand businesses or junk dealers. 100% of proceeds go to benefit GiftsToGive.

WE DO NOT ACCEPT: Toy guns, bratz dolls, violent toys, war toys and of course; used baby bottles and breast pumps, used underwear, socks and hygiene supplies.

Here are the things most requested by community agencies for children in-need.

2018 Garden Tour: Nature’s Treasures Tickets on Sale! @ Ying Dynasty
May 25 all-day

The Mattapoisett Woman’s Club announces their 2018 biennial garden tour “Nature’s Treasures.” On Saturday, June 30 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, rain or shine, nine beautiful distinctive village, town, and seaside gardens will be showcased. Some are secluded or hidden at first glance, while others are home-styled landscaped, and picturesque others are surrounded by the sea. There are outdoor structures like gazebos, arbors and even a wood-burning sauna! You will see annuals, meadows, rock gardens, perennials and patio blossoms that will transport you with fragrant features to magical and stunning environments of nature.

The Garden Tour is the major way the MWC raises money for the Scholarship Fund and other charitable contributions.

Advanced tickets are $15 and will be sold at the following local shops beginning May 25, 2018: Periwinkles and Gotta Have It in Fairhaven; Isabelle’s, Pen and Pendulum, and Town Wharf General Store in Mattapoisett; and Serendipity by the Sea and The Bookstall in Marion.

The day of the tour tickets will be sold only at Ying Dynasty Restaurant, 24 County Road, Mattapoisett, MA 02739 for $20 each. The maps for the self guided tour for all ticket holders will also be available at this location.

Taste of the Town started in the early 2000’s as a fund raiser for the Mattapoisett Public Library Capital Campaign. After that the MWC has continued it on it’s on as a principal fund raiser for our scholarships and donations to other non-profit agencies in the Greater New Bedford Community.

These exciting “Tastes” are held at Shipyard Park under the Lion’s Club Harbor Days tent on the Tuesday of Harbor Day’s week. They feature local dining establishments offering their signature dishes: lobster rolls, chowder, shrimp cocktail, delicious stone cold soup and more. Floral arrangements are made for each table and are available for a donation. Rousing entertainment has been by the Showstoppers for the past several years. The community looks forward to the “Taste” each year. It is an exciting and energetic event bringing hundreds of people together under the Lion’s tent. It is humming with activity, music and the lovely setting of tables along the shores of Mattapoisett Harbor.
