College Scholarships

 The application due date for the MATTAPOISETT WOMAN’S CLUB COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS for 2024-25 is now closed.

For more than 80 years, the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club has been helping students pursue their educational goals by awarding scholarships to high school seniors and re-entering or continuing education students from the Mattapoisett community.

Scholarship Awardees

2022

The Mattapoisett Woman’s Club awarded three scholarships to Mattapoisett students this year.

The club gave two $2,000 scholarships to Mattapoisett residents who are graduating high school seniors and a $1,000 scholarship to a Mattapoisett resident who is in pursuit of a post-secondary degree.

The Adult Scholarship Award winner is Abigail Stark, a resident of Mattapoisett and a graduate of ORR High School, Class of 2018, who will be graduating from the University of New Hampshire in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. This fall, she will continue her education at the University of New Hampshire in their Accelerated Master’s Program for Occupational Therapy.

The two Student Scholarship Award winners are Thomas Galavotti and Sofia Martins, both of whom reside in Mattapoisett and are graduates of ORR High School, Class of 2022. Each will be begin their studies in the sciences this fall. Thomas will be heading to Raleigh, North Carolina where he will begin his studies toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science at North Carolina State University. Sofia will be heading to Burlington, Vermont and the University of Vermont where she will undertake her studies for a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science.

2021

The Mattapoisett Woman’s Club awarded three scholarships to Mattapoisett students this year.

The club gave two $2,000 scholarships to Mattapoisett residents who are graduating high school seniors and a $1,000 scholarship to a Mattapoisett resident who is in pursuit of a post-secondary degree.

This year’s recipients are Kara LeBlanc, a student at Old Colony Regional Technical High School. She plans to attend Johnson and Wales University to expand her baking and management skills. LeBlanc was a camper at the YMCA from a very young age and has progressed to become a staff member for the past three years.

Old Rochester Regional High School student Emma Williamson plans to attend Northeastern University with a double major in Mathematics and Political Science. During her high school career, she interned with the Sippican Historical Society as an archival researcher and also received many school honors. She is an active member of the Massachusetts Climate Education Organization, whose goal is to mandate climate justice.

Serena Jaskolka, a graduate of ORRHS and Worcester State University, is pursuing an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of New Hampshire.
The Mattapoisett Woman’s Club scholarship started in 1943 with $5 awarded to a Center School Mattapoisett student. In 1948 the amount was $100, and has steadily increased with community supported fundraising efforts. To date, more than $100,000 in scholarships has been presented to local scholars.

2020

Lauren Lapointe is a student at Bishop Stang. She is an excellent student excelling not only in academics but in her ability to volunteer in the community and also participate in various clubs at Bishop Stang. She plans to study nursing at Sacred Heart University.

Megan McCullough is a student at ORR where she has done well despite some learning challenges.
She has maintained a balance of schoolwork, sports, school counsel, babysitting and social life while attending high school. Megan plans to attend Bridgewater State University and study social work and special education.

Ryan Picewick is a student at Old Colony High School where he has excelled in electronics and robotics. Ryan, who struggles with learning challenges, is talented in the electronics vocation and aspires to become an electrical engineer. He plans to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute to achieve this goal.

Morgan Browning has earned the higher education $1,000 Scholarship. She has a BS from University of Florida and is currently a Community Residence Counselor at McLean Hospital OCD Institute. Her goal is to complete a Masters/PhD in Clinical Psychology and has applied to several institutions of higher learning to fulfill her aspiration

2019

This year The Club is happy to award two scholarships to students from Old Rochester Regional High School. The students are Julia Cabral and Rosemary Loer. Both students possess excellent academic achievements, have done multiple community service tasks, and have participated in several extracurricular activities.
Ms. Cabral is the daughter of Deborah and Dani Cabral. Julia will attend the University of Connecticut and study in the Pharm D Program to become a licensed pharmacist. Ms. Loer is the daughter of Martha and Robert Loer. Rosemary will attend Tufts University and major in Mechanical Engineering, applying in her junior year to a combined degree program.
The Mattapoisett Woman’s Club especially thanks the community for its support of our Garden Tour that occurs every two years, the Taste of the Town that takes place during Harbor Days, and our other fundraising efforts and events.

2017

This year the Club is happy to award scholarships to two seniors who will be graduating. The Club voted to increase the scholarship amount to $2,500 and to limit the number of scholarships to two. The students were chosen based upon their academic achievements, community service involvement and extracurricular activities.

Michelle Randall will be graduating from Bristol County Agricultural High School. She will be attending SUNY at Cobbleskill, NY and plans to study Animal Science. Maxxon Wolski will be graduating from Old Rochester Regional High School. He will be attending Berklee College of Music and plans to study Music Education.

2016

Four students from Old Rochester Regional High School have been awarded with academic scholarships from the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club. The students were chosen based upon their academic achievements, community service involvement and extracurricular activities. The scholarship winners are Abigail Field, who will attend UMass Dartmouth; Serena Jaskolka, who will attend Worcester State; Jane Kassabian, who will attend University of Notre Dame; and Maggie Wiggin, who will attend the College of the Holy Cross.

2015

The Mattapoisett Woman’s Club announces the winners of the 2015 scholarships to the following seniors from Mattapoisett: Morgan Browning, Victoria Caton, Michael Kassabian from Old Rochester Regional High School, and Abigail Rottler from Bristol County Agricultural High. All four students have achieved excellent academic records, completed multiple community service tasks and participated in many extracurricular activities. Congratulations to these four outstanding students. The Mattapoisett Woman’s Club wishes them the best in their future endeavors.

Browning, daughter of Karen and John Browning, will attend the University of Florida. Her interests lie in the fields of social sciences, math and education. Caton, daughter of Jacqueline and Robert Gene Caton, will study at Curry College toward a Bachelor of Science in nursing. Kassabian, son of Laurie and Jay Kassabian, will attend Harvard University, where he plans to study in multiple disciplines and use his knowledge for the benefit of others. Rottler, daughter of Tanya and James Rottler, will attend the University of North Carolina Wilmington to study marine biology. She has been interested in the ocean since she was three years old.

2014

The selected students are: Amanda Carreiro, daughter of Anne and Jeff Carreiro. Amanda will attend Northeastern University to pursue a career in medicine or literature. Callie Gomes, daughter of Bethany Ratcliffe and Stephen Gomes. Callie plans to study nursing at UMass Dartmouth. Elizabeth Machado, daughter of Jane Finnerty and James Machado. Elizabeth hopes to become an elementary education teacher and will attend Endicott College. Robert Magee, son of Paul and Mary Magee, is looking forward to a career in pharmacy and will attend Wingate University.

All four students possess excellent academic achievements, have done multiple community service tasks, and have participated in several extracurricular activities.
